Linda Finch currently works part-time as a sculptor and also a part-time member of staff at the University of Brighton within School of Art Administration Team. She is based at Rose Hill Workshop in Brighton, UK
Linda's work over recent years has moved away from pottery and into figurative sculpture. This decision also coincided with a move in studio spaces from New England House to Rosehill back in December 2019. Both proved to be a positive step.
It was no surprise that Linda turned to figurative work as she has always had a passion for life drawing and drawing with clay. However the catalyst for change was attending one of Hazel Reeves week long clases at Phoenix Studios in Brighton. The class was creating a life-size size portrait sculpture from life. I have been hooked ever since and have been exploring a range of sculpture techniques, both with fired clay as well as mould making and casting in resin.
As well as working in my Studio I also attend spring and summer classes at Art Junction in Billinghurst. As well as regular classes they also offer hot-benching.

Earlier Work
Linda's early work developed out of a fascination with pattern. Experiments with throwing different coloured clays on the wheel lead her to create vessels with diverse and unique patterns in rich tones. Each vessel was a one-off decorative piece, but some were functional, depending on the finish. In 2006, shorly after graduating, she was selected to showcase work at Setting Out 06. This prestigious exhibition is organised each year by the Craft Potters Association to launch new graduates in their ceramic careers. Linda was 1 of 24 ceramicists to exhibit work.
During 2006-2019 Linda produced 'Bird Chatter' pottery. The design of which originating from a series of quick sketches of birds in the garden. Each piece features birds 'chatting' on a washing line and each design was hand drawn into the clay and later fired with coloured oxides and glaze. These are unique pieces of pottery.
Past work has also seen Linda make a range of tiles for practical and decorative purposes. Again the inspiration for these tiles was fuelled by her love of pattern.
